WWT

Q. I am interested in working for WWT but I don’t think there are any vacancies which suit my skills and experience. What can I do?

Using the ‘Register your Interest’ section please select the departments / locations you are interested in working in so we have this for future reference. This will generate automatic notifications of vacancies of your choice to your email address.

Q. I would like to gain some work experience with WWT. How can I do this?

We offer school work experience and volunteering opportunities at all of our centres.  For more information on this please contact your local centre.

Q. Why is it best to apply for a vacancy online?

As we are a conservation charity this is the most sustainable way of submitting your application. Everything is received electronically, secured safely and managed through the system.

Q. When will I find out the outcome of my application?

It is our policy to contact all candidates, whether successful or not. Ideally we will contact candidates within two weeks from the closing date. Please bear with us if it does take a bit longer, sometimes we just receive so many good applicants!

Q. How will I be kept updated on my applications progress?

All correspondence is sent via email - this way it is quick, easy and environmentally friendly. So please detail your email address on your application.

Q. Where do I need to go when I arrive for my interview?

This varies depending on the location of the role; however this will be detailed in your invitation to the interview. For further details on how to find us please select the relevant centre from our homepage.

Q. What paperwork do I need to bring with me to my interview?

Please bring in a form of identification with you to demonstrate your right to work in the UK. This could either be a European passport or a national passport together with a valid work permit. If you are unsure what to bring, please refer to the relevant guidelines from the UK Borders Agency for further details.

Q. I have been invited to attend an interview. What should I wear?

Please come smart and presentable. If we need you to wear anything specific, like your Chef whites, we will let you know in your invitation to interview.

Q. Will you pay my travel expenses for attending the interview?

As we are a charity we unfortunately are not able to pay travel costs.

Q. What type of interview can I expect?

This can vary depending on the type of role but generally we operate a friendly question and answer session so we can get to know you and your skills better. If there are any practical exercises or preparation required we will detail this in your invitation to interview.

Q. What employment checks do you carry out?

There are some important pre-employment checks that we make and confirmation of your appointment will be subject to us completing these.  They include receiving a satisfactory reference from your most recent employer/education establishment (we reserve the right to request further references as necessary), an assessment of your fitness for work and proof of your eligibility to work in the UK. We will also carry out a DBS check if you are joining one of our Learning teams.

Q. If I were successful in joining WWT’s team what are the staff benefits?

We offer a number of exciting benefits, which are available to all from day one. To name a few: a generous holiday entitlement, stakeholder pension with employers contributions, free car parking on-site, free entry into all nine WWT centres, discounts in the shops and restaurants. Enhanced maternity and paternity leave, Occupational sick pay and much more.

Q. What training and development opportunities do you offer staff?

This is an important and vital area for us, we therefore offer various courses to all staff, starting with a Welcome day.  Your specific development needs will be tailored to your role and will be discussed with you as part of your induction and your appraisal.
