Washington re-opening information

Information to help you plan your visit at WWT Washington

We're so pleased to be able to open our doors to visitors. To allow us to do this, there are some strict guidelines we are following. All details are below. We ask that all visitors follow these guidelines in order to allow us to keep everyone safe.

  • All visitors must have a pre-booked ticket for the day they are visiting. This includes members and children under 4. This is to allow us to control numbers on site.
  • We open at 10am. Please do not arrive before this time.
  • We have a queuing system in place for the admissions which is temporarily relocated inside the main entrance to allow for social distancing - please have your tickets and membership cards ready to show the team.
  • Masks must be worn while you are in the visitor centre.
  • There is no access to our centre toilets. There are 4 accessible toilets with baby change facilities within the grounds, 1 situated by Close Encounters,1 opposite the play area, 1 at our reedbed shelter and the compost toilet near the otters.
  • The cafe is now open, serving a selection of hot and cold snacks and drinks. There is a one way system within and around the building, please follow all floor markings and signage.
  • The shop is pen with social distancing guidelines in place. Cardless payments only to be made at our main admissions area.
  • The play area is open - however will be closed between 12.30 - 1pm for cleaning
  • Visitors can feed our birds and bird food is available to purchase from the admissions area, with contactless payments only for now.
  • All hides except the Princes Trust hide are open for visitors - with a maximum of 2 households allowed into each hide at a time. We ask visitors to vacate the hide after 10 minutes if others are waiting to enter to ensure fairness.
  • The otter holt and otter viewing platform are now open but we have limited capacity in those areas to facilitate social distancing. Again we ask visitors to vacate the area after 10 minutes if others are waiting.
  • There are lots of hand sanitising points around site, including at every gate and hide. Please do use them.
  • Mobility scooters are available to hire - these must be pre-booked 48 hours in advance by calling 0191 416 5454.
  • Staff will greet visitors on arrival to talk you through some of this information, and there are additional staff around site.
  • Re-admission is not permitted at this time.
