Tawny Owl

Great winter condition for viewing across the reserve with blue skies and light winds.

Tawny Owl was showing well today along the Nature Trail between the Janet Kear and UU Hides. Marsh Harrier still present, 3 Peregrine, 2 Common Buzzard, Kestrel and Sparrowhawk.

Over 1000 Whooper Swan roosting and 2000+ Pink-footed Geese with the later mostly absent in any numbers until late afternoon. Good numbers of Teal and Wigeon present. Keep an eye out for something that looks like a Baikal Teal, it might even be one, as a bird was reported at Marshside today.

Plenty of activity around the feeding stations with Tree Sparrow, Chaffinch, Greenfinch, Reed Bunting and Goldfinch present. A flock of 50+ Fieldfare flew over the reserve in the afternoon.
