Dragonfly Hotspot attracts an amazing giant LEGO® brick dragonfly called Emily!

WWT Caerlaverock is set to become a Dragonfly Hotspot in partnership with the British Dragonfly Society (BDS). In celebration, a giant LEGO brick sculpture of a dragonfly will visit us during the summer, alongside its living counterparts.

The world’s most popular toy will bring families closer to nature at WWT Caerlaverock Wetland Centre and inspire kids to learn more about dragonflies.

Daniele Muir, BDS Scotland Officer, said:
“Hotspots are locations where there are good dragonfly populations, easy access for people to reach the good dragonfly spots, and communities close by that can get involved in dragonfly events and conservation".

There are currently 8 Dragonfly Hotspots in Scotland, including Crombie Country Park, Gartcosh LNR, Greenhead Moss LNR and Trottick Ponds LNR in Dundee. More information on Dragonfly Hotspots can be found here

We will be holding various events during the summer to learn about dragonflies, including bug hunts, pond dipping, Nature Explorers passport activities, a Dragons & Damsels family day and an Insectathon on 25th June which will be the launch of the Dragonfly Hotspot.

Brian Morrell, Centre Manager, said:
“We are pleased to welcome our new LEGO® brick dragonfly to WWT Caerlaverock for the summer and are excited about working with the British Dragonfly Society to become a Dragonfly Hotspot”.

There is no extra cost to for kids (and big kids) to meet the giant LEGO brick dragonfly, they are included in admission.
