Wood Sandpiper and Garganey

Wood Sandpiper and drake Garganey new in today. The Garganey is going into eclipse.

The usual selection of raptors with 5+ Buzzard, 3 Kestrel and 2 Sparrowhawk. An adult female Peregrine was hunting over the Mere during the week and yesterday we received a report of Marsh Harrier and Hobby, the later mobbing a Buzzard over towards the woods to the right of the Ron Barker Hide.

Newly hatched Black-headed Gulls are showing well at the moment

Wader species present include many Avocet with chicks, Redshank, Lapwing, Oystercatcher, Black-tailed Godwit and LRP.

On the duck front, Pochard, Shoveler, Gadwall, Shelduck and Mallard all have chicks scattered around the reserve.

At least one Cuckoo present seen from the UU Hide and perhaps another from the Ron Barker Hide in the afternoon.

Little Gull still present and Med Gull today.

Other birds included Yellow Wagtail (2) in the overflow car park early on. Barn Owl hunting this morning over Woodend Marsh. Linnets, Reed Buntings and Tree Sparrows around the reserve. Corn Buntings just off the reserve too.
