Yellow Wagtails arrive to 'stage'

Middle Point

At least three Yellow Wagtail were on the fences near the estuary, they also visited the cattle herd in the Tack Piece, this is likely to herald the increase in numbers over coming weeks. A flock of 140 Dunlin were on the mudflats with an adult Yellow-legged Gull and adult Mediterranean Gull distant on the Purton mud bank with other gulls. 50+ Curlew and 42 Shelduck were also on the mud near the viewing area.

Rushy Pen

An adult Reeve, 2 juvenile Little-ringed Plover, 8 Green Sandpiper, 42 Black-tailed Godwit, 2 Redshank, Oystercatcher and 5 Lapwing.

3 Green Sandpiper and 2 Lapwing.

South Lake

The Crane family continue to do well, 5 Ruff (males in various scruffy moults),  3 Avocet (adult with two juveniles), 4 Green Sandpiper, 80+ Black-tailed Godwit, 51 Redshank and 40 Lapwing. A large moulting flock of Gadeall, Mallard and Tufted Duck are on deep lake, two Pochard, adult and juvenile Little Grebe and a few other species can be seen in the same area.

Top New Piece/Zeiss Hide

Very busy with Reed Warblers, juveniles perched in the open along the fences, perhaps 30+ in the small reed bed below the hide! On the flood a Little-ringed Plover, 7 Greenshank, 2 Green Sandpiper, 3 Black-tailed Godwit, 110 Dunlin, 59 Lapwing and 32 Aovcet. 10 Teal and few Shelduck and a Mallard brood or two.
