Millenium Wetlands

Although the weather may seem a bit bleak, there is still so much bird life to see! A Goldeneye was spotted briefly on the Deep Water Lake. Our ponds and lakes are host to many ducks including 80 Gadwall, 2 Pochard, 31 Teal, 34 Tufted duck and 11 Shoveler. Four Water Rail and 4 Cetti's Warbler have been heard amongst the reedbeds. 15 Snipe have been seen from the Peter Scott hide. Throughout the woodland and scrub look out for Long-tailed tit (22), Great Spotted Woodpecker (2), Bullfinch (4), Goldfinch (18). Jay (3) and the elusive goldcrest (2). 2 Woodcock were seen along one of the fishing platforms and 2 Hawfinches were seen flying over the same area on the 20th.

If you are visiting, the evening is now a great time to see Cormorants gather around Deep Water Lake to roost. 42 were counted on Friday.

 

British Steel Hide

No high number of waders have been counted recently on the saline lagoons. A spoonbill has returned to the area, as well as the sighting of a Water Rail. There have also been 47 Lapwing, 45 Wigeon, 8 Gadwall, 6 Shoveler, 2 Dunlin and 3 Little Egret.
