Recent Sightings 1st Jan 2018

A blustery start to the new year but there was plenty to see on and from the reserve at Castle Espie. The following sightings were recorded today from the reserve at Castle Espie.

Estuary – visible from the Brent Hide and the Limekiln Observatory

Brent Geese 18, Wigeon 11, Shelduck 132, Curlew 9, Black-tailed Godwit 20, Redshank 38, Oystercatcher 16

Main lake – visible from Sensory garden and Visitor centre

Mallard 399, Tufted Duck 38, Teal 20, Gadwall 4, Coot 2, Shoveler 1, Greylag 1, Grey heron 1, Cormorant 2, Black-headed gull 27, Mute swan 1

Wader marsh – visible from the lookout and the Brent Hide

Greenshank 2, Redshank 2, Curlew 1, Mute swan 1

Freshwater Lagoon – visible from Brent Hide and Crannóg

Saline Lagoon – visible from Lime Kiln Observatory
