Why wetlands need champions
Since 1970 wildlife in rivers, lakes and wetlands has suffered a 76% decline. That’s twice the rate elsewhere. Now human development and climate change present a dual threat to the wild places our planet depends on. But there are lots of ways you can help. By raising funds for us, you can make all the difference to WWT’s conservation work.
- £50 could buy a heat lamp to keep spoon-billed sandpiper chicks warm
- £100 could fund X-rays to check on the health of 10 Bewick’s swans
- £250 could buy a whole set of hand tools for volunteers to learn new conservation skills
- £500 could maintain a reedbed the size of a tennis court in our reserves for a year
How you can help
There are so many weird and wonderful things you could do to raise vital funds for WWT. How about putting one of your hobbies to work? Or why not fulfil a challenging ambition? Almost anything you can think of can be turned into a fundraising event. Here are some great ideas that our other Wetland Champions have had!
Dressed as a Flamingo, Alan hit the streets near each of our nine WWT wetland centres and raised over £500 in sponsorship money!
10 year-old Megan was inspired by a trip to WWT Welney and decided to make and sell chocolate spoons in aid of the Spoon-billed sandpiper.
