Junior Wetland Rangers

Become a Junior Wetland Ranger this summer! Learn what it takes to care for our beautiful wetlands and help us with our daily mission to save wetland nature with 8 challenges along our Junior Wetland Rangers Trail.

Pick up your free Junior Wetland Rangers Record Book and try our interactive challenges designed to encourage a love of wildlife and offer families a new way to experience wetlands. It’s a wild day out for the whole family!


Pick up a trail card and set off to explore and try fun activities to discover what makes wetlands amazing. All Junior Wetland Ranger activities are included in your admission ticket price, free if you are a WWT member.

There are loads of exciting wetland challenges waiting for you like:

  • Gear Up - Get on a uniform, grab some gear and snap a super selfie
  • Ring Round the Birdie – Discover what leg rings are and make your own
  • Health check – weigh a goose and measure a swan to help care for the flocks
  • Survey Skills - watch and record plants wildlife
  • Meet the Keepers - chat with a WWT Team member at the Dalmatian Pelican talk or Coastal Creek Aviary fish feed

As well as Junior Wetland Rangers there’s lots of other wild and wonderful activities to discover over the summer holidays .

  • Pond dipping at the Raised Pond: Try a family pond dipping sessions to fish out wild wonders from our easy to access Raised Pond. We’ve everything you need to uncover incredible underwater life: nets, ID charts and our friendly Learning Team are on-hand to help. Book a pond dipping session at our admission desk on the day of your visit. A £3 donation per family/group to help us cover costs is welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult with a minimum ratio 1:5 ratio. (1 adult to 5 children)
  • Wetland Discovery Boat Safaris, daily: Book a seat on a boat when you arrive in centre on the day of your visit to get your set departure time. Boat rides are by booking only at the admission desk for £3 per person.
