Here's your chance to become a Wetland Explorer! There are loads of exciting wetland challenges waiting for you including pond dipping, scavenger hunts, willow crafts and a nest building challenge.
Head to our exciting Wetland HQ in the Picnic Area where you can pick up a trail map and set off on our NEW ‘Wild Child’ trail, wading through mud and splashing barefoot through water. Grab your free Wetland Explorer log book and start your expedition. It’s a wild day out for the whole family!
Take part in our special Wildlife Extra Tuesday events during the summer; Mini Mammal Morning, Wildlife Photography for Kids, Dragons and Damsels and Willow Crafts for Kids. Or go pond dipping with a warden on a Wednesday and identify the water creatures you discover.

Willow Crafts for Kids, Tuesday 16th July, 11am-1pm
Use colourful willow grown here at WWT Caerlaverock to make a variety of different willow crafts, such as stars, fish or bird feeders. Family event.
Mini Mammal Morning, Tuesday 23rd July, 10-11am
Find out what mammals we have caught overnight in our small mammal traps and learn more about the mammals such as voles and mice that live on our wetland reserve!
Wildlife Photography for Kids, Tuesday 30th July, 11am-1pm
Learn tips and techniques on taking photographs of wildlife using your camera or mobile phone. Family event.
Dragons & Damsels, Tuesday 6th August, 11am-1pm
Explore our wetlands and get out and about on the reserve to find and identify different species of damselflies and dragonflies. Go pond dipping to find larvae and learn about the fascinating lifecycle of dragonflies. Search for the adults flying around the wildflower meadow, avenues and around the ponds, and learn the difference between dragonflies and damselflies and the habitats they prefer. Family event.
Pond Dipping, every Wednesday, 11am-1pm
Explore the magical, murky underworld of ponds out on our wetland reserve. Use pond nets, magnifying glasses and identification guides to discover a world of exiting creatures beneath the surface!
Wetland Safari Weekend, 10th-11th August
For budding naturalists, the Wetland Safari Weekend is not to be missed! There’s something for everyone, with nature discovery activities such as nature walks, bug hunting, family crafts, a dragonfly identification workshop and bird ringing demonstration.
