Migrate into Autumn

Migrate into Autumn

Everything you need for an unforgettable day out with family fun, wildlife walks, talks and exciting new events.

Autumn is a magical time of the year to visit Castle Espie Wetland Centre, as we celebrate one of nature’s greatest migration journeys.

This October, as part of The Big Brent Event 2018, take a Walk on the Wild Side and immerse yourself with thousands of Light-Bellied Brent geese, or for those budding young explorers join a Junior Bird Watch Safari.

Then, hop on your broomstick this Halloween and experience the incredible journey Brent Geese make from the Arctic to Castle Espie, with our new interactive migration course – complete it and you’ll get to take your own broomstick pilot license home with you.

You can also experience the spookier side of wetland wildlife, with our NEW Beastly Bat trail. Challenge all of your senses and discover gruesome bat facts. Are you brave enough to see what’s lurking inside each box?

Autumn also sees the return of other migratory bird species, including Whooper swans, which are often seen swooping overhead after completing their own remarkable journey from the Arctic.

Keep your eyes peeled too on our monthly Bird Watch Mornings for Wigeon, Black Tailed Godwits and Redshank, which gather in huge numbers at this time of year.

And, once who've finished wildlife watching visit The Kingfisher Kitchen cafe, which offers a range of seasonal specials, Castle Espie favourites and uninterrupted views across Strangford Lough.
