Ikebana - An Exhibition of the Japanese Art of Flower Arrangement

Date: Sat 11 January - Sun 26 January

Join us at the Castle Espie gallery for “Ikebana: An Exhibition of the Japanese Art of Flower Arrangement” by members of Belfast Chapter of Ikebana International and Sogetsu Belfast Branch.

Ikebana, translated as ‘giving life to flowers’ is a beautiful, often strikingly minimalist art form where nature and humanity are brought together. It is steeped in the philosophy of developing closeness with nature. Traditional arrangements follow rules of composition while modern arrangements allow free expression and the use of unconventional materials. The motto of II is “Friendship through flowers” and the organisation seeks to promote mutual understanding between nations through the pleasure of learning Ikebana. Several schools of Ikebana including Ohara and Sogetsu are represented in this exhibition.

This exhibition is FREE to visit.

We look forward to welcoming you to the exhibition.
