Dusty's Wildlife Rangers
Wed 25 July - Mon 3 September
Join Dusty for a wild adventure this summer
Here’s your chance to become a fearless Wildlife Ranger like Dusty Duck. There are loads of exciting challenges waiting for you this summer, from pond dipping to an intrepid canoe safari. You can even jump on a bike and wind through our wetlands on wheels!
A great place to start is Wiggly Woods where you’ll find our new Ranger Camp. Weave a magical den out of willow. Learn how to identify amazing wildlife. Then set off into the wild with your guide and see how many cool creatures and hidden animal tracks you can spot. You can also find out fascinating flamingo facts and feed Dusty’s ducky cousins.
Grab your FREE Wildlife Ranger logbook when you arrive and start your expedition at WWT Llanelli Wetland Centre. It’s a wild day out for the whole family!
ALL DAY: Den Building - Make your way down to Ranger Camp to build the best den you possibly can. Will you weave your den walls from willow or go the rustic route and use other natural materials you can find in Wiggly Wood?
11am – 12pm Pond dipping - An hour-long activity that includes lots of time outdoors at our pond zone, catching an abundance of creatures which we then take inside to our discovery room! Here our guide will show you a selection of what was caught under our giant microscope. This is a great chance to find out weird and wonderful facts about our pond life. Please note: We do have limited capacity for this activity therefore booking is essential. There is no extra charge but please sign up for this activity on arrival at the information desk.
12pm – 4pm Canoe safari and bike trail - Go on your own wetland adventure on our canoe safari; a great opportunity to get close to nature or head to the millennium wetlands where you can loan a bike and explore our wetlands on wheels.
1pm – 2pm Wildlife Ranger Training – enjoy a mini safari out on our reserve with our guide who will help you learn a range of new skills like how to identify wildlife, how to spot hidden tracks and hunt for bugs! Please note: We do have limited capacity for this activity therefore booking is essential. There is no extra charge but please sign up for this activity on arrival at the information desk.
2.30pm – 3.15pm - Flamingo talk & watch - Join our guide down at the flamingo pen as they talk about how we care for our colourful, Caribbean flamingos, how they care for their babies and how they're adapted to live in the wetlands. The talk will be at 2.30pm but our guide will there until 3.15pm with a telescope allowing you to get a closer look at our feathered friends.
Craft workshops (times vary) - Make your very own souvenir to take home with you. We offer a variety of craft activities where you can get creative! Please see our craft board at the Craft Corner for further details. (There is a small charge to make a craft which covers the cost of materials).
