We will contact the shortlisted entries by 23 August and the winners via email by 30 August and notify them of how and when their photographs will be displayed, as well as details on the prize.

By submitting an entry to the competition, you are agreeing to be bound by the following rules:
1. ENTRY INTO THE COMPETITION
1.1 Entries must be received by 23:59 GMT on the 16th August 2024.
1.2 Photos must be submitted by email to martinmerecompetition@wwt.org.uk. Entries are to be submitted as hi-resolution images with a combined maximum file size of 20MB.
Each entry must include the individual’s name and the category.
1.3 Each photographer can submit a maximum of 5 photographs.
1.4 WWT Martin Mere reserve the right to see proof of age for entrants in the Junior category.
2. ETHICS
2.1 Without exception, you are expected to adhere to the following code of ethics. Any breach of these ethics will result in you being disqualified from the Competition.
2.2 Entries must not deceive the viewer or misrepresent the reality of the natural world.
2.3 Entrants must not injure, distress, or damage an animal for the purposes of photography or use drone photography.
2.4 Live baiting is not permitted, nor any means of baiting that may put an animal in danger or adversely affect its behaviour, either directly or through irresponsible habituation. Any other means of attraction, including bird seed or scent, must be declared.
3. JUDGING PROCESS AND PRIZES
3.1 WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre will appoint the judges to a panel.
3.2 The panel will judge the submissions to the competition and will choose a winner and runner up for each category.
3.3 The title North West Wetland Photographer of the Year and Junior North West Wetland Photographer of the Year will be chosen by the panel for the winner of each category.
3.4 Winners will each be given a free individual annual WWT membership. Existing members will be given free renewal for the following year.
3.5 The prizes cannot be exchanged or transferred.
3.6 The winning photos, runner up photos, and shortlisted entries will be displayed on site at WWT Martin Mere from September to October 2024 as part of an exhibition.
4. PUBLICITY
4.1 By entering the Competition, entrants are agreeing to their name and relevant submission(s) to the competition being used in the exhibition and by WWT for marketing purposes during the North West Wetland Photographer of the Year competition and for a period of one year after the closing date.
This includes the right for WWT to reproduce, publicise and exhibit the image/s in any medium (including, but not limited to, physical copies, electronic copies and on social media).
4.2 The term "any medium" when used in clause 4 shall include, but not be limited to, any print, book, magazine, WWT’s stakeholders’ communication, digital media, applications or social media channels.
5. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS
5.1 By entering the Competition, you warrant, represent and hereby agree that any entry you submit:
- is your original work
- does not infringe on any intellectual property right of any other individual
- you are the sole owner of the copyright to all of your submissions
5.2 WWT does not claim any rights of ownership in any of your entries to the Competition and the copyright remains with you.
5.3 WWT will hold your personal data provided with your entry for the purposes of contacting you and providing a record of your consent to WWT using your images. The data will be kept securely in accordance with the requirements under data protection legislation and will not be made available to any third party without your consent.
