Mindful Photography for Wellbeing
Wed 20 June
Slow down and use photography, mindfulness, and walking to look again at the world around you.
In this workshop you slow down and use photography, mindfulness, and walking to look again at the world around you. You learn to take notice and see the extraordinary in the ordinary. You experience the opposite of 'snapping away'. As well as improve your photography skills, the workshop helps you reduce stress and improve your wellbeing.
You start off indoors, exploring how to look and see differently, before going on a gentle walk around Slimbridge, taking photos in a calm and mindful way.
The photography side of things is kept simple, low tech and fun. You can use any device you choose, from a mobile phone, tablet or a digital camera. The workshop is suitable for all abilities and levels of photography experience. Ruth will advise about certain technical aspects if required, but the focus is very much on looking and seeing, and creating photographs while being in the present moment. You do not need previous experience of mindfulness.
"I enjoyed the idea of taking a different approach to what I would normally look at. It’s completely different to how I normally work and I can see so many more possibilities now. I can really see the benefit of slowing down and considering alternate approaches to photography."
- Katie Randall, Slimbridge WWT workshop participant
Ruth developed this mindful approach to photography when she experienced her own health challenges some time back. “I have lived experience of how using photography, mindfulness and being in nature can help to improve my own health and wellbeing and now want to share the benefits of this approach with others.”
Ruth has many years experience in running photography workshops, as well as being a professional, published and commissioned photographer in her own right. Her business Look Again helps people to expand their vision and to see their lives, their work and their world with fresh eyes. She runs workshops and training to groups staff and clients groups in corporates, charities, universities, and schools. She delivers photography commissions as well as sells her photographs through her website. If you are interested in a free taster interactive talk for your organisation or group, please contact Ruth.

When booking a place on an event, your ticket entitles you to entry to that event only. You will also need to purchase admission to WWT Slimbridge Wetland Centre as well, unless otherwise stated. For admission to WWT Slimbridge Wetland Centre, book online in advance to save 10%.
Payment must be made at the time of booking.
All tickets are non-refundable and can only be redeemed on the date specified in your booking.
If, for any reason, you are unable to attend an event on the date you have booked, at least 21 days’ notice must be given in order for us to transfer you to an equivalent event.
If the event you are transferring to differs in price, the difference will either need to be paid by you at the time of transfer or refunded to you.
Late cancellations (less than 21 days in advance of the event) would require the vacant space to be filled by another paying customer before we are able to transfer you to a different date. In the event that a replacement attendee cannot be found, monies would be lost.
Please arrive around 10 minutes before the start of your event (unless otherwise stated on the event page). In some instances late arrival may result in the loss of a place. If you’re able to contact us to let us know that you will be late, please do so, so that we can do our best to accommodate you.
WWT Slimbridge reserves the right to cancel an event due to unforeseen circumstances, including low numbers or inclement weather etc. In these instances we would contact you at the earliest opportunity and you would be offered the choice of a space on an equivalent event (where available) or a full refund.
We recommend supplying us with more than one contact detail, specifically a mobile number, so that we are able to contact you if necessary.
For outdoor activities please be sure to wear appropriate clothing and footwear. Sturdy boots, coats for inclement weather, water and sun cream for hotter days are recommended.
