Wild Winter Weekend

Date: Sat 18 January - Sun 19 January

A celebration of the wildlife that calls the reserve home for the winter.

On both days:

Birding for Beginners, 8 - 10:30am: Join our Wardens for the start of their day as they head out to count the wintering birds. Pick up hints and tips on how to identify the wildlife you see, and how to get the most from your birding this season. Meet in car park. £16.50 per person (includes breakfast). BOOK NOW

Flight of the Swans Screening, 2pm: Flight of the Swans movie. An exclusive chance to see the film created as part of the Flight of the Swans project: BOOK NOW

Guide in Hides, 11am - 3pm: Head out on to the reserve and meet our expert guides who will be on hand to help you identify the winter wildlife you can see from our hides: Estuary Tower, Zeiss Hide, South Lake Discovery Hide, Peng Observatory & Robbie Garnett Hide. Free, just turn up!

Winter Geese Walks, 11am: Head outside to meet the winter geese in our Living Collection with the help of one of our experts and pick up hints and tips on how to identify them in the wild. Meet in the foyer. Free, but booking essential on the day via admissions.

Winter Wild Bird Feed, 4 - 4:30pm: Watch our Wardens as they head out on to the Rushy to feed thousands of wintering birds and find out more about our Bewick’s Swans. Meet in the Peng Observatory. Free, just turn up!

Decoy Demonstrations, 2 - 3pm: Join us for a demonstration of the newly refurbished Decoy and discover how you can catch a duck with a dog. Meet in the foyer. Free, but booking essential on the day via admissions.

Scott House Museum Tours, 11am & 1.30pm: Visit Scott House Museum for a guided tour around the home of WWT's founder Sir Peter Scott. BOOK NOW

Severn Wildlife Carvers, 9:30am - 3pm: Visit the amazing carvers from this local group and see them in action, and their display of waders. Free, drop-in in the foyer.

Wetland Bird Survey and BTO drop-in, 9:30am - 3pm: Meet your local BTO representatives and find out how you can take part in a whole range of surveys including the Wetland Bird Survey (WeBS). The team will also be on hand to help with identification hints and tips for the birds on the South Lake, and to give you a taster of how to complete a WeBS count as part of the national scheme. Free, drop-in to the South Lake Discovery Hide.

Bird Clubs information Stand: Find out more about our local bird clubs and how to get involved with surveys, walks and talks in Gloucestershire. Meet Cheltenham Bird Club, Gloucestershire Naturalists' Society and Dursley Birdwatching & Preservation Society.

Saturday Specials:

The changing fortunes of Bewick's Swans, 12 noon: Talk with Kevin Wood from WWT's conservation team: BOOK NOW

Evening with the Swans, 6 - 9:30pm: Join our Reserve Wardens for a magical floodlit evening swan feed and discover more about the Bewick’s Swans and our other wintering wildfowl.Then settle down in the restaurant for a specially prepared two course meal. Follow signage from the car park to meet in the restaurant. £29.95 per person, group discounts available. Additional dates are available on Fridays & Saturdays between 29 November - 8 February.
