Welney is located 7.6 miles (12 km) from Littleport station (CB6 1JL) which is on the Fen Line from Cambridge to Kings Lynn. Trains run directly from London Kings Cross to Littleport via Ely.

Taxi services operating in Littleport include: Parkers (01353 860111), Anglia (01353 863877) or Littleport cabs (07495 768906). Booking is essential. The fare should be around £15 each way. The journey takes about 15 minutes.

By bike

The centre is on Sustrans National Route 11. Download a map here.

There are 7 Sheffield bike racks immediately outside the main centre doors. They are not covered. There are no showers in the centre.

If cycling from Littleport train station, the ride should take around 35 minutes and offset 2.2kg of Carbon Dioxide.
Route to take: Upon leaving Littleport Station, turn right and cycle in to Littleport town and bear right. You will cycle past the Cemetery (on your left). Cycle towards the A10 roundabout and take the 2nd exit (Wisbech Road, A1101). Follow this major road (no cycle lane) for 2.9 miles and turn right in to Bells Drove, follow this unclassified road for 1.2 miles and it will bend to the left, carry on for 0.2 miles and you will meet up with the A1101 again, now known as Hereward Way and at this point, part of the National Cycle Route number 11. Turn right. After 0.1 miles you will come to the New Bedford suspension bridge. Turn right at this bridge (before crossing it) and follow Hundred Foot Drain (aka Station Road) a mile to the Welney Visitor Centre on your right.

If cycling from Downham Market train station, the ride should take around 50 minutes.

Route to take: Come out of the station and turn left on to Station Road. Follow the road down (it will become Bridge Street). Turn right at the High Street. At this point you will be on National Cycle Route number 11, a quiet, riverside (Great Ouse) route along Sluice Road, Ten Mile Bank, Church Road and taking a right in to Station Road at the junction with Modney Bridge Road (where Modney bridge crosses the Great Ouse).
