Accessibility during autumn and winter

During the colder months, the reserve can be wet and muddy so waterproof footwear is recommended. Those with limited mobility or using push wheelchairs may find traversing the Avenue and Saltcot Loaning unsuitable. Please call us on 01387 770200 for more info.

Accessibility

All our Wetland Centres exist to fulfil founder Peter Scott’s vision of connecting people with nature, so we make it a principle that our wetlands and wildlife are accessible to everyone.

WWT Caerlaverock Wetland Centre has the following facilities:

  • Free accessible car parking provision
  • We welcome trained assistance dogs on site. Please keep them on their lead and under control at all times and ensure any dog waste is removed. If any of our birds/animals behaviour are affected by the presence of your dog, we respectfully ask that you understand that we may have to ask you to move away from the area.
  • Maps can be enlarged, please ask ahead of your visit
  • Access around the site is mostly level and there are no gates
  • Step-free entry to the ground floor of all our hides with viewing windows for wheelchairs
  • 1 accessible toilet
  • Peter Scott Centenary Walk – a good sensory experience
  • We have flat, wide avenues suitable for wheelchairs and all our hides are accessible. Wheelchairs are available to hire.

In addition we have friendly and helpful staff, so if you need restaurant staff to carry a tray to your table or help open a gate – please just ask!

If you have any specific questions about our accessibility then please feel free to call us on 01387 770200 and we can discuss it with you and help you plan your day.

We look forward to welcoming you to WWT Caerlaverock Wetland Centre.
