The following competition rules constitute the terms and conditions of WWT London Urban Wetland Photographer of the Year Competition (‘the Competition’).
By submitting an entry to the competition, you are agreeing to be bound by the following rules:
1. ENTRY INTO THE COMPETITION
1.1 Entries must be received by 23:59 GMT on the 31th August 2023.
1.2 Photos can only be submitted electronically via email.
Entries are to be submitted to londoncompetition@wwt.org.uk as hi-resolution images with a combined aximum total file size of 20MB. Only entries submitted via this email address will be deemed valid. Entries received via other means cannot be accepted.
Each entry must be submitted under an individual’s name and should be accompanied by details of when and where the photograph was taken. Please share as much detail as you would like about the circumstances of the image.
The subject of your email must be Urban Wetland Photography Competition
Only the first 10 photographs you submit will be allowed.
You email must also contain your name and best way of contacting you – via email or telephone
1.3 Each photographer can submit up to ten photographs across the following categories;
- Wetland Landscape
- Wildlife Behaviour
- Rare/Unique Wetland Moment
- Smartphone
- International
Any submissions after this will not be entered into any category.
1.4 It is your responsibility to ensure that your entry fits the description of the relevant category to which you submit your entry. If the entry is perceived by the panel to not to fit the category it will not be considered for judging.
2. ETHICS AND CONDUCT
2.1 Without exception, you are expected to adhere to the following code of ethics. Any breach of these ethics will be deemed to be a breach of the rules and may result in you being disqualified from the Competition.
2.2 Entries must not deceive the viewer or misrepresent the reality of the natural world. Caption information must also be correct, accurate, and true.
2.3 Entrants must not:
- injure, distress, or damage an animal for the purposes of photography
- use drone photography
2.4 Live baiting is not permitted, neither is any means of baiting that may put an animal in danger or adversely affect its behaviour, either directly or through irresponsible habituation. Any other means of attraction, including bird seed or scent, must be declared in the caption.
3. JUDGING PROCESS AND PRIZES
3.1 WWT London Wetland Centre will appoint the judges to a panel.
3.2 The panel will judge the submissions to the competition and, in respect of each category, will choose a winner for each category.
3.3 The title Urban Wetland Photographer of the Year will be chosen by the panel from the category winners.
3.4 All category winners will be given free individual WWT membership*
3.5 Overall winner will have the title of Urban Wetland Photographer of the Year 2023, winning photo displayed on site at London Wetland Centre for a year and WWT joint or family membership (existing members will be given free renewal for the following year).
4. PUBLICITY
4.1 All entrants in the Competition agree that their name and relevant submission(s) to the competition can be used, without any compensation, for the purpose of marketing following Urban Wetland Photographer of the Year competitions.
4.2 In consideration for the chance to win an Award for an image you submit to the Competition, you hereby grant to WWT the right to reproduce, publicise and exhibit that image/s in any medium (including, but not limited to, physical copies, electronic copies and on social media) for a period limited to no more than one year to enable it to be judged for an Award by the Panel.
4.3 The term "any medium" when used in clause 4) shall include but not be limited to any print, book, magazine, WWT’s stakeholders’ communication, digital media, applications or social media channels.
5. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS
5.1 By entering the Competition, you warrant, represent and hereby agree that any entry you submit:
- is your original work
- does not infringe on any intellectual property right of any other individual
- you are the sole owner of the copyright to all of your submissions
5.2 WWT does not claim any rights of ownership in any of your submissions to the Competition.
5.3 You agree that WWT may, but is not required to, make your entry available on its website and any other media, whether now known or invented in the future, in connection with any publicity and/or judging of the Competition.
5.4 WWT will hold your entry and your personal data provided within it for the sole purpose of providing a record of your consent to WWT using your images with the exception of clause 8) below. The data will be kept securely in accordance with the requirements under data protection legislation, including but not limited to the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 and the Data Protection Act 2018. The data will not be made available to any third party without your consent.
