'Black Darter: A Dragonfly Safari' photography exhibition

An outdoor dragonfly photography exhibition by renowned wildlife and landscape photographer Andrew Fusek Peters.

'Black Darter: A Dragonfly Safari' photography exhibition

The dragonfly photography exhibition

For eight years, Andrew has been trailing the Black Darter dragonfly across the upland habitat of the Long Mynd, Shropshire. Photographing the Black Darter from dawn through to dusk, he captures the intricate detail of this endangered dragonfly, drenched in dew or silhouetted by sunlight.

Enjoy these magical images in the stunning wetland surroundings of WWT Caerlaverock, a site officially recognised as a 'dragonfly hotspot' by British Dragonfly Society. Combine your visit with a day of wetland exploration during our Dragonfly Festival, a celebration of these fascinating insects in summer.

The black darter dragonfly

At 29-34mm long, the black darter (Sympetrum danae) is the UK’s smallest dragonfly and a specialist of peat moss, moorland and heathland habitats, often flying in late summer between July and September. Laying its eggs in shallow bog pools, the black darter dragonfly is reliant on wetland habitat for its survival.
