Pelican Creek is home to the UK's only flock of Australian pelicans, alongside several species of Australian waterfowl. Walk through their habitat, get closer than ever to these incredible birds and discover why Australia's wetlands are so important for wildlife.
Pelican Creek is included with admission and free for WWT members.
- This walk-through habitat is open throughout the day subject to staff and volunteer availability but is viewable all day.
- Pelican feeds and keeper talks take place daily at 10:30am and 1:30pm.

Why Australian pelicans?
Australian pelicans are among the world's largest flying birds. With wingspans reaching up to 2.5 metres and the longest bill of any living bird, they're perfectly adapted for life on Australia's wetlands.
At WWT London, our flock helps tell the story of Australia's threatened wetlands and the wildlife that depends on them.
Meet the flock
Our flock is made up of 10 Australian pelicans: Wally, George, Dewi, Lachlan, Carys, Anwen, Winnie, Matilda, Daphne and Pippa, each with their own unique personality.
Look out for Wally, who's often the first to greet visitors, Dewi, who's always curious about what you're doing, and Winnie, who can be recognised by the distinctive bald patch on her head.
Several of our pelicans have formed close bonds, including George and Winnie, Dewi and Carys, and Lachlan and Matilda. We're also keeping an eye on Wally and Pippa, who may be forming a bond of their own.

Pelican Creek is more than just a home for pelicans. Look closely and you'll discover several other Australian wetland birds sharing the habitat.
Magpie geese
Magpie geese are often described as 'living fossils' because their lineage split from modern ducks and geese around 66 million years ago. They're often spotted exploring alongside the pelicans.
Cape Barren geese
Keep an eye out for Sheila (3 years old) and Bruce (1 year old), our Cape Barren geese. Native to southern Australia, these striking geese spend much of their time grazing. They have salt glands that allow them to remove salt from their food and enables them to drink salt water.
Maned duck
Our three female maned duck (also known as Australian wood ducks) are all one-year-old and have quickly made themselves at home in Pelican Creek. A close-knit trio, they're rarely far apart. If they do become separated, you'll often hear them calling to one another across the enclosure until they're reunited.
