Join African Activities for a vibrant line-up of immersive workshops celebrating culture, music, and creativity at our very first Migration Festival. All activities run on 2, 3 & 4 May.

African Drumming

Join an inclusive, hands‑on djembe drumming workshop that brings the vibrant beats of West Africa to the wetlands. A fun, immersive experience for all ages that connects culture, rhythm, and the journeys of migratory birds.

  • Times: 10:15-11:00am and 15:15–16:00pm
  • Where: Waters edge room 

Storytelling and co-creation: What does it mean to belong?

Join in with drumming, rhythm and call‑and‑response as traditional West African tales unfold. A playful way to explore culture and wildlife through sound and imagination.

  • Times: 12:15-13:00pm
  • Where: Log Circle

Sustainable Arts & Crafts - Bottles into Birds

Turn recycled milk bottles into colourful bird art while learning about migration and conservation. A creative activity inspired by the species that travel between West Africa and the UK. (If you’re able to, please bring a clean, empty milk bottle to take part in the bird-making workshops. A limited number will be available on the day.)

  • Times: 11:15am-12:00pm and 14:00-15:00pm
  • Where: Back of H2O

These sessions are open and accessible to all ages (from young children through to adults) with activities designed so families and individuals can take part together.

No prior experience is needed. Children may NOT be unaccompanied.

Migration Festival: From West Africa to the Wetlands

We’re excited to be hosting our first-ever Migration Festival from 2–4 May, celebrating the sights, sounds, and stories of migration. This lively, family-friendly festival brings together West African music, dance, storytelling, crafts, and food, alongside the incredible journeys of spring birds, including sand martins, swifts, yellow wagtails, terns, chiffchaffs, and warblers. Explore the fascinating connections between nature, culture, and migration across three days of immersive activities.
