Plenty of bird song this morning, plus Water Pipit, Bittern and a pair of Shelduck. An Icelandic race Redwing was spotted in the afternoon in the entrance lake area

1 Redwing (Icelandic race) - entrance lake

5 Song Thrush - singing from sheltered lagoon, entrance area, wildside and scrape/sheltered lagoon

7 Cetti's Warbler - singing from wildside, south route, reservoir lagoon, main lake, reedbed, sheltered lagoon

5 Reed Bunting - reedbed, main lake

January bird highlights: Jack Snipe, Brent Goose, Bittern, Goldeneye, Yellow-legged Gull, Iceland Gull, Water Rail, Water Pipit, Siskin, Chiffchaff. Colour-ringed gulls recorded recently include a Norwegian Common Gull and a Danish Black-headed Gull.


Early flowering plants: Marsh Marigold, Cowslip, Ragwort, Daisy, Winter Aconite, Snowdrop, Hazel, Primrose, Stinking Hellebore, Butcher's Broom, Gorse, Early Crocus.


Insects: (January) Buff-tailed Bumblebee, Red Admiral.
