Chilean flamingos

ℹ️ Flamingos off show
Our flock of Chilean flamingos is currently being housed indoors. This is a temporary measure as a precaution to local avian influenza (bird flu).
We don't know how long this will last but we'll let you know as soon as they are safe to be back outdoors!
Thanks for your understanding.

Rare visitor to river corridor

A shag has been spotted on the River Wear by our reserve manager John on his morning rounds.

That's his first sighting in more than five years of working here, so he's excited to say the least!

The coastal bird is most likely to have come inland because of today's bad weather.

Happy sheltering :-)
