Chilean flamingos

ℹ️ Flamingos off show
Our flock of Chilean flamingos is currently being housed indoors. This is a temporary measure as a precaution to local avian influenza (bird flu).
We don't know how long this will last but we'll let you know as soon as they are safe to be back outdoors!
Thanks for your understanding.

Spring is here!

Spring is definitely getting underway at Washington today! We've had 3 Black-tailed Godwits on Wader Lake this morning as well as a Ruff in partial summer plumage. The Grey Herons are hatching chicks and Lapwings are fighting over territory.

Over 50 Common Toads have been spotted in the Amphibian Ponds and Forgotten Meadow as well as Smooth Newts and lots of Common Frog spawn. Linnets and a Skylark have been spotted by the River Wear and Great Spotted Woodpeckers have been heard drumming in Spring Gill!

Butterflies and flowers are cropping up everywhere, so it's definitely shaping up to be a fantastic spring!
