Chilean flamingos

ℹ️ Flamingos off show
Our flock of Chilean flamingos is currently being housed indoors. This is a temporary measure as a precaution to local avian influenza (bird flu).
We don't know how long this will last but we'll let you know as soon as they are safe to be back outdoors!

Today's wildlife sightings - featuring wonderful waxwing!

Wader Lake (AM, mid tide)

Lapwing - 8 (with 3 holding territory)

Curlew - 2

Gadwall - 6

Teal - 14

Tufted duck - 9

Shelduck - 21

Plus 22 shelduck on the saline lagoon.

Waxwing - 6 in the car park

Goldfinch - 6 in the car park

Collared dove - 1 in the car park (quite uncommon for WWT Washington)

Mute swan - 4 flew over site at about 9am

Little grebe - 1 on the River Wear

Cormorant - 1 on the River Wear
