Chilean flamingos

ℹ️ Flamingos off show
Our flock of Chilean flamingos is currently being housed indoors. This is a temporary measure as a precaution to local avian influenza (bird flu).
We don't know how long this will last but we'll let you know as soon as they are safe to be back outdoors!

Wildlife sightings - 01/02/2018

Wader Lake (AM, low tide):

Mute swan 1

Stock dove 7

Shelduck 27

Lapwing 90+ (very mobile thanks to a hunting sparrowhawk!)

Grey heron 7

Black-headed gull 59

Common snipe 1

Eurasian teal 23 (17 male and 6 female)

Sparrowhawk 1 (large mature female)

 

Saline lagoon (AM, low tide):

Shelduck 2

Eurasian teal 13 (7 male and 8 female)

 

Hawthorn Wood feeding station:

Coal tit 3

Blue tit 6

Great tit 9

Long-tailed tit 6

Jay 1

 

Plus:

Tree sparrow (6) and great-spotted woodpecker (1) on the centre feeders

Goldeneye (2 males) and a grey heron on the River Wear

Bullfinch in the orchard 8
