Chilean flamingos

Our flock of Chilean flamingos is currently being housed indoors. This is a temporary measure as a precaution to local avian influenza (bird flu).
We don't know how long this will last but we'll let you know as soon as they are safe to be back outdoors!

Wader Lake (AM, high tide):

Bar-tailed godwit (rare visitor) 1

Black-tailed godwit 2

Teal 36

Black-headed gull 242

Curlew 1

Redshank 9

 

Saline lagoon (AM, high tide):

Teal 32 (1 at the river reedbed and 31 on the lagoon)

Jay 1 (at the river reedbed)

 

Hawthorn Wood feeding station:

Female sparrowhawk (flushed birds away)

 

Plus:

Grey heron at the filter reedbed 1 and on the River Wear 3

Cormorant on the River Wear 1

Curlew on the River Wear 2

Sparrowhawk at Forgotten Meadow (female) 1

Tree sparrow on the centre feeders 1

Great-spotted woodpecker in Hollowood 2

Treecreeper in Pen One 1

Shaggy inkcap fungus at the filter reedbed

Birch polypore bracket fungus in Spring Gill scrub
