Recent sightings - 14th March

The following sightings were recorded today by Toni Castello, warden, at low tide.

Main lake – visible from Sensory garden and Visitor centre

Mallard 30, Tufted duck 10, Cormorant 2, Black-headed gull 50.

Wadermarsh - visible from Brent Hide

Redshank 2, Black-headed gull 25.

Freshwater lagoon – visible from Brent Hide and Crannog

Mallard 3, Gadwall 4,Tufted duck 3, Black-headed gull 100.

Saline Lagoon

Black-headed gull 40, Gadwall 4, Tufted duck 2, Little grebe 1.

Estuary – visible from Brent hide and Limekiln observatory

Light-bellied brent geese +200, Shelduck +350, Lesser black-backed gull 1, Black-headed gull +200, Black-tailed godwit 16.

Limestone Lake

Mallard 6, Tufted duck 9, Mute swan 2.

Brickworks

Oystercatcher 7.

Frog's spawning

Apart from the former, during the weekend our Warden Pete Matchett detected a very intense frog mating and spawning activity in some of our ponds. We shared this amazing, frantic spectacle involving dozens of frogs and thousands of eggs, with many of our visitors. Spring is coming!!
