BNP Paribas Asset Management

Supporting the redevelopment of our London Rain Garden.
Designed by the late award-winning landscape architect, Dr Nigel Dunnett and originally opened in 2011, the Rain Garden at London Wetland Centre showcases how a garden can save water and attract wildlife while still looking good.
Since then, a lot has changed. Not just our environment but also our knowledge of how blue spaces can improve climate resilience, wellbeing, and biodiversity. Thanks to generous donations from BNP Paribas Asset Management in 2025 and 2026, the Rain Garden is being brought up to date, and will include a learning and engagement programme for visitors of all ages. BNP Paribas Asset Management staff have also spent time supporting the work on site, helping us with planting and painting.
The new space will champion rain gardens as part of the solution to the challenge of climate change, and feature a rain staircase, a talking water butt, and much more.
WWT is proud to be a beneficiary of BNP Paribas Asset Management’s ‘Empowering Sustainable Futures’ Philanthropy Programme. One of the programmes’ three aims is to address ‘climate change and inclusion for communities’. The Rain Garden redevelopment will help us to demonstrate and share our knowledge about climate friendly gardens, water use, and how this benefits us all, with visitors of all ages. The new Rain Garden will include a learning space for visiting school groups. It is due to open in September 2026.
