Grey partridge

Grey (Alan) partridge Feb 2015
A grey partridge in the hand...

Our aviculture manager Kristian had a lovely start to his morning, when he stumbled across this rather fine looking grey partridge.

Or Alan, as he dubbed him. Geddit!? (*Nudges and winks*).

He said: “The grey partridge is a UK BAP species (i.e. a species that has been identified as being the most threatened and requiring conservation action) and hasn’t been seen on site at WWT Washington in at least two years.

“I discovered not one but two in an aviary up at the duckery this morning; one found it own way out and I caught the other up and released it safely into a hedgerow.

“Nice start to my morning. They are ridiculously cute birds.”
