Out on the reserve today
Water levels have now receded enough to reveal some spits of land on the reserve which is encouraging the wading birds and dabbling ducks back onto the reserve. More variety in birds can be seen from the main hide and we hope to open some of the footpaths soon.
Whooper swan are also doing more flights between the farmland and the reserve as they prepare for migration, so we are seeing some new swans from the main hide such as NS3 today, last seen in January 2012 at Welney and he had been ringed at Martin Mere in 2003. So he's at least 13 years old.
