Recent Sightings 18th September 2017

The following sightings were recorded today from the reserve at Castle Espie. We had a very good count yesterday for our WeBS survey, good to see waders and geese returning to the lough.

Estuary - visible from the Brent Hide and the Limekiln Observatory

430 Oystercatcher, 14 Black-headed gull, 7 Cormorant, 16 Lesser black-backed gulls, 120 Curlew, ~2000 Brent geese (at low tide the geese had spread out across the estuary, amazing sight to see!), 17 Little egret, 20 Redshank, 34 Eider

Main lake - visible from Sensory garden and Visitor centre

74 Mallard, 7 Black-headed gull, 1 Coot, 8 Tufted duck, 4 Wigeon, 1 Moorhen

Wader marsh - visible from Wader marsh lookout and Brent Hide

6 Moorhen, 2 Black-headed gull, 1 Coot, 13 Jackdaw

Freshwater Lagoon - visible from Brent Hide and Crannog

60 Mallard, 5 Moorhen, 1 Little grebe

Saline Lagoon - visible from Lime Kiln Observatory

4 Little grebe

7 Goldfinch, 14 Jackdaw, 2 Woodpigeon, 2 Chaffinch

Limestone Lake
