Reserve update

Hare walks are continuing as normal and the mild conditions this January have meant that boxing is already well underway.  On mild days we are getting between 10-16 active hares spotted on the walks.  This photo was taken on a walk last week.

Water levels on the reserve have been falling but the main observatory is still the only hide accessible on the reserve.  However, swan feeds are continuing as normal and the flight in of swans at dusk is still the best time to see good numbers as well as at the evening feeds.

On cold, clear mornings the Lady Fen wetlands next to the visitor centre are full of swans making ready to fly out to the fields for a days feeding.  On the colder mornings the swans tend to fly out later and so you have a good chance of witnessing this daily wildlife spectacle and capturing it with your camera from the car park or along the road (there are a couple of passing places).  Then when the centre opens at 10am you can warm yourself with a brew.
