About me
Growing up in the Fens of Cambridgeshire gave me a strong interest in the natural world especially British wetlands. I completed my Zoology BSc from Liverpool John Moores University in 2022, producing my dissertation on the feasibility of dragonfly reintroductions at the Chat Moss peatland complex in Greater Manchester.
After graduating, I joined APEM consultancy as a freshwater scientist, for two years focusing on freshwater macroinvertebrate taxonomy. I then changed my career path, working a secondary school science technician in Manchester. As well as supporting the science department with practical’s, I used my background in ecology to assist in environment club, teaching students field skills to encourage interest in the natural world.
My project
The main focus of my PhD is the link aquatic ecosystems have to terrestrial food-webs and ecosystems. Within this I will be looking as the wider affects the creation of new ponds have on biomass and biodiversity compared to preexisting wetlands. One of the projects main objectives is to use stable isotopes to measure the flow of biomass across the landscape, with the aim of highlighting the importance of wetlands in the wider concept of landscape scale rewilding.
