Blackwits, warblers and wildflowers

There is a flock of 46 Black-tailed Godwits on the Folly Pond this morning, many of them in their orange breeding plumage. We are waiting for details of a colour ringed individual which is amongst them.
A different bird with colour rings was with them yesterday, it was ringed in Norfolk in 2009. Since then it's also been seen in Essex, Kent, N France, E Iceland, Wirral, Isle of Tiree, RSPB Saltholme, Lincolnshire & now WWT Caerlaverock!
The Avenues are alive with bird song. Sedge Warblers have now arrived in good numbers and are singing away from the tops of the Willows. Chiffchaff, Willow Warbler and Blackcap can also be heard singing.
More wildflowers are coming up in the Avenues; Ramsons (wild garlic), Red Campion and Lesser Celandine are the latest to flower. The Summer Walk will be open from Wednesday 1st May.
