Swan Age Assessment and Low Tide Counts

Swan Age Assessment and Low Tide Counts

It has been a busy week with survey work. Since doing the Winter Passerine Survey we have also carried out a Whooper Swan Age Assessment and a Low Tide count as part of the Wetland Bird Survey. We counted 150 swans as part of our age assessment, although we know of more in the local area that we could not get to this time. The low tide count flagged up a flock of over 700 Lapwing and good numbers of ducks on our inland ponds, with a nice variety present including the Goldeneye, Pintail, Teal, Shoveler, Mallard, Teal, Wigeon and Gadwall. The otter cubs have been seen again as well yesterday so do keep your eyes peeled for them if visiting the Reserve over the festive period.
