Centre closure

We’re making some changes to how we operate, so we can make sure our wetland sites thrive in the future. To help us make time to prepare for these changes, the site will be closed temporarily, from Wednesday 12 November until Tuesday 18 November. You can find out what this means for you here.

Wetland Word of the Week 6

Wetland Word of the Week 6
Our 6th wetland word is...

... petrichor meaning the pleasant scent that occurs when it rains on dry ground. I don't know about you but for me, it evokes the feeling of a summer sky, pregnant with heavy clouds when suddenly a drop at a time, the downpour starts until the sky opens and on comes the storm.

It takes a lot for Caerlaverock to get that dry but there are definitely times when we wish for rain! Last summer, we were having to pump water into the ponds from the river regularly. The moment it rained and we smelt petrichor, we were intensely grateful.
