Woodland Closure Notice

Due to high winds forecast for today (Wednesday 25th March) our woodland area will be closed. All other areas are open as normal. Thank you for your understanding.

No hand-feeding

There is no hand-feeding birds at the moment. This is a precautionary measure to help reduce the risk of spreading avian influenza. Thank you for your support and understanding.

Recent Sightings

Sightings from the 14th October have included:

  • 11,950 Brent on the Lough with 1,500 – 2,000 on the Estuary.
  • 12 Whooper swans with 2 young were spotted on the Main Lake.
  • Main Lake – 208 Mallard, 2 Pintail, 36 Tufted Ducks, 1 Pochard, 4 Gadwalls and 3 Coots.
  • A Kingfisher has been spotted regularly around the reserve, in particularly the Main Lake, Limestone Lake and Fresh Water Lagoon.
  • Peninsula Salt Marsh – 29 Oystercatchers, 19 Redshanks, 1 Greenshank and 1 Lapwing.
  • Small Birds, including Great, Blue and Coal Tits and Goldfinches, can be seen at the feeders outside the shop and restaurant.
