Recent Sightings €“ 8th April 2018

The following sightings were recorded today from the reserve at Castle Espie. The weather has been mixed lately but there has been some interesting sightings of birds recently, including a Spoonbill on the Wadermarsh during the week.

Estuary - visible from the Brent Hide and the Limekiln Observatory

Oystercatcher 4, Curlew 10, Black-headed Gull 370, Lesser black-backed gull 2, Little egret 2, Shelduck 17, Brent goose 24, Black-tailed godwit 24, Redshank 2.

Main lake - visible from Sensory garden and Visitor centre

Lesser black-backed gull 2, Mallard 22,  Tufted 27, Black-headed gull 18, Teal 3

Shingle bank - visible from Sensory garden, Wadermarsh and Visitor centre

Graylag goose 2, Black-headed gull 178, Cormorant 1, Mallard 5, Mute swan 1

Wadermarsh - visible from Wadermarsh lookout and Brent Hide

Gadwall 3, Black-headed gull 24

Freshwater Lagoon - visible from Brent Hide and Crannog

Tufted duck 2, Mallard 7, Graylag 1,  Coot 2, Black-headed gull 220

Saline Lagoon - visible from Limekiln observatory

We have also had frog and newt spawn on the ponds in the reserve
