From clambering over timber trails and splashing in swampy puddles to crossing jungle-like balance beams and scaling the summit of our towering climbing frames, there’s something for explorers from pre-school to teenagers to enjoy.

Whether you’re darting around like a dragonfly, weaving nests like a swan, or building dens like an otter, our adventure play zones invite creativity, exercise and fun at every turn. And with spots for grown-ups to sit back and enjoy a well-earned coffee break or ice cream, these are popular spaces for every member of the family.

• We've got plenty of exciting outdoor play areas for all ages to conquer!
• Dig in the sand, rock on the flamingos and climb the nets in Flamingo Bay
• Leap across swamps, walk the ropes, and brave the balance beams in Explore
• Lose yourself in the Swan’s Nest Maze and find the giant eggs
• Slide and crawl through the grassy banks and tunnels of Water Vole City
• Weave a nest or build a top secret den in Wiggly Wood

Play area FAQs

Can I bring a pushchair or buggy into the play area at WWT Llanelli?

Most of our play areas have flat and wide paths leading to them and space for pushchairs and buggies to park.

The paths closer to the Explore play area and Water Vole City can be muddy when it’s rained.

Are there picnic tables where we can sit and eat at the play area at WWT Llanelli?

We have picnic tables and places to sit and eat close to lots of our play areas. This includes, picnic tables and handwashing facilities next to our traditional play area as you approach Wiggly Wood. There are also plenty of places to sit and relax at our Flamingo Bay play area, which is also close to the Visitor Centre. All of our picnic areas are clearly marked on the map you can pick up when you arrive.

Are the play areas free at WWT Llanelli?

Yes, the adventure play areas are included free as part of your entry ticket or membership and can be enjoyed from opening time (9.30 am) to just before closing time (5.00 pm).

Is the play area at WWT Llanelli suitable for pre-school children?

Yes, we have a variety of play spaces that are suitable for younger children including pre-schoolers. Many of our play areas are also gated so younger children can explore and play freely in a safe space.
