Dinosaurs aren’t as extinct as you might think...
This winter, uncover surprising connections between dinosaurs and the wetland birds living at WWT Llanelli today.
Through fossils, guided birdwatching, hands-on art, and fascinating wildlife encounters, find out how birds became the last surviving dinosaurs, and spot some of their modern-day relatives in our wetlands.
Every Saturday and Sunday in December and January at WWT Llanelli.
Running from Saturday 5 December 2026 to Sunday 31 January 2027.
From feathers, nests, and scaly feet, to chirps, powerful claws and hunting, you'll be amazed by the traits birds share with their ancient ancestors.
What to expect:
- Guided birdwatching to discover the dinosaur in every bird
- Touch bones, claws, and real and replica fossils
- Explore how feathers and wings developed
- Find out how wetland dinosaurs hunted, and how some birds hunt today
- Learn about eggs - and compare a domestic duck egg to a Tyrannosaurus Rex's egg!
- Create your own fossil to take home in our air-dry clay art workshops
- Design your own theropod dinosaur or bird. What features will you give yours?
- Look at a giant evolutionary timeline to see how dinosaurs, birds and humans are connected through millions of years of history
- Forget the movie roars... Scientists believe many dinosaurs made sounds much closer to the birds we hear today. Listen and decide for yourself!
- Strike a prehistoric pose and take a fun photo
