Festival season is here as WWT London hosts vibrant summer Dragonfly Festival
Families are invited to enjoy a summer of colour, creativity and outdoor adventure as WWT, the wetland charity, brings Dragonfly Festival back to WWT London this summer holiday.
Running from 18 July to 31 August, Dragonfly Festival celebrates the wonder of wetlands with a host of performances, activities and family fun inspired by one of nature’s most beautiful insects.
Families can head to the festival courtyard, where Pip Pondskimmer will be bringing the space to life with interactive storytelling, movement games, giant bubble play, dragonfly spotting challenges and dragonfly-inspired circus performances throughout the summer.
Festival highlights include:
- Professor Slug's Bugs: Interactive storytelling shows with puppets, music and fascinating bug-filled adventures.
- Insect Circus: A magical family puppet show celebrating the strange and wonderful world of insects.
- Monday Storytelling Sessions: Magical dragonfly tales from Olivia Armstrong alongside sensory storytelling with the WWT team.
- Wednesday Workshops: Weekly hands-on activities including dragonfly wing making, bug building, pyrography and dragonfly robotics.
- Friday Arts & Crafts: Create dragonfly mobiles and finger puppets to take home.
- Upstream Puppet Shows: An award-winning puppetry adventure celebrating rivers, wetlands and wildlife.
Families can also uncover a kaleidoscope of minibeasts during pond dipping sessions, test their skill and agility with giant outdoor games and discover the secret lives of dragonflies by exploring our Wildside, a designated British Dragonfly Society Dragonfly Hotspot.
Alexia Hollinshead, General Manager at WWT London, said:
“We’ve already spotted 14 species of dragonfly and damselfly at WWT London this season, including a Red-veined Darter, which is an unusual and exciting visitor to the site.
Dragonfly Festival is all about helping families get closer to nature, discover the magic of wetlands and enjoy a different outdoor adventure every time they visit.”
Dragonflies are among the wetlands’ most captivating species - agile aerial hunters with shimmering wings and extraordinary life cycles. The festival highlights their importance to healthy wetland ecosystems and the need to protect the habitats they depend on.
The Dragonfly Festival at WWT London is included with admission and free to WWT members.
