Winter Wellbeing and Festive Magic Await at WWT London Wetland Centre
The best of both worlds at the wetlands: winter tranquillity and festive sparkle, 6 Dec–4 Jan.
This winter, WWT London Wetland Centre is inviting visitors to slow down, breathe deeply and rediscover the restorative power of nature with a season full of festive fun and wellbeing.
New research from WWT, the wetland charity, reveals that more than a quarter of adults (28%) are seeking walks near water this winter, drawn to the calming effect of lakes, ponds and wetlands. With accessible paths winding through wide-open waterscapes, WWT centres offer the perfect place to boost mood and reconnect with nature - with just ten minutes spent in their soothing “blue spaces” shown to make a positive difference.
Throughout December, families can enjoy a mix of festive activities at WWT London. Weekends will see the return of Festive Family Fun Days, featuring marshmallow toasting, gingerbread decorating, storytelling, face painting and hands-on otter enrichment. Alongside this, the centre’s Give a Gift to Nature workshops invite visitors to craft seeded thank-you cards and pinecone bird feeders, blending creativity with care for wildlife. Special seasonal highlights, including performances from a Gospel Choir and appearances by a Bubbleologist, will add extra festive sparkle on selected days.
Winter here is all about space, calm and connection. Whether families join us for a festive workshop or simply take a quiet walk by the water, the wetlands give people room to breathe and reset - General Manager, Alexia Hollinshead
Winter also brings thousands of migratory birds to WWT sites across the UK, transforming them into spectacular sensory landscapes filled with the calls of swans and geese, frosty mornings and sunset skies. With nearly 60% of people naming Boxing Day as their favourite day to get outside, a winter wander at WWT London offers the perfect post-Christmas reset.
