World Wellbeing Week

RS29496_WWT_150204_2027.jpgWorld Wellbeing Week begins on 21 June…a gentle reminder to ourselves that, in increasingly crazy times, our physical and mental health is something we should prioritise whenever we can.

Easier said than done, we admit, but taking time to work on yourself is never time wasted. And taking time to connect with the natural world is absolutely vital to improving our wellbeing.

In summer, wetlands are full of life. Birds are busy raising their young, ponds are buzzing with colourful dragonflies and meadows are heady with the scent of flowers – a wonderful feast for the senses, a balm to the soul and, well, just a lush thing to experience!

Did you also know?

  • Spending time in nature, and especially around water, can reduce psychological stress, fatigue, anxiety and depression (YouGov research shows that 65% of people find being near water improves their mental wellbeing).
  • Last year, the People & Nature Survey for England 2020 found 85% of adults reported that being in nature made them happy, during the stresses and strains of the pandemic.
  • As well as encouraging us to be more physically active by spending time outside, the warmer weather and longer, lighter days in summer can increase levels of serotonin and dopamine in the body, and boost Vitamin D.

So, if your wellbeing is in need of a boost, why not prescribe yourself a dose of the outdoors and get your nature fix with us here at Washington Wetland Centre (don’t forget to pre-book your tickets before visiting >> https://bit.ly/WAbookvisit )
