Chilean flamingos

ℹ️ Flamingos off show
Our flock of Chilean flamingos is currently being housed indoors. This is a temporary measure as a precaution to local avian influenza (bird flu).
We don't know how long this will last but we'll let you know as soon as they are safe to be back outdoors!
Thanks for your understanding.

Wader Lake news 22 February

Today, 23 grey heron nests were occupied in the hedge at Wader Lake, with 8 pairs incubating eggs.

This is one of the best times to watch the heron colony, as the birds are at different stages of breeding activity with pair bonding, displaying, nest building and mating all being observed.

Other recent Wader Lake highlights include 36 pink-footed geese heading west overhead and a single starling noted flying low over site.  In recent times, starlings have not been noted at WWT Washington and starling numbers in the UK have also fallen rapidly, particularly since the early 1980s.
