Welcome back, you wonderful waxwing!
A Eurasian white-fronted goose has been on site since Monday, spending its time between the stream channel and the juvenile pen.
The river footpath was alive with birds this morning, with at least 40 lesser redpoll feeding in the alder trees, as well as a mixed tit flock of long-tailed, great and blue tit.
Thrush numbers are also on the increase, with a site count of 44 song thrush, 87 blackbird, 12 mistle thrush and 60 redwing.
But the highlight of the morning was when I was restocking the bird feeders at Hawthorn Wood and heard a familiar noise from last winter - waxwing calling overhead!! I managed to glimpse at least 10 of them through the canopy as they flew south. Happy days :-)
