All hides except Gill's Lookout are accessible to everyone today, including with mobility scooters. Water levels are continuing to drop. Lady Fen trails are now closed until after breeding season, but great views from cafe veranda. All roads including A1101 Welney Wash Road are open.

Close alert

Today on the reserve

After a damp start we had a beautiful day at WWT Welney with lots of fledged birds now flying around the reserve including redshank, lapwings and swallows.

The moorhens on the pond in front of the centre have had another brood of chicks.  The chicks from the last brood are helping out where they can and can often be seen feeding their younger siblings and even brooding them in the colder weather.  A beautiful sight to see of helping mum and dad out! This method of cooperative breeding is seen in several species that have multiple brood in a year including long-tailed tits.
