Changes for three year olds

We’ve recently made a small change to some of our membership categories by lowering the age of a child from four to three years.

This means children aged three (or above) will now need to be part of a membership or have an admission ticket to visit a WWT Centre. A Family membership includes up to six children, aged 3-17 years and a Junior membership includes one child aged 3-17 years. You can view our different membership types here.

Children aged two or under can continue to visit for free.

Why are we making this change?

As a charity, we always try to offer our supporters the best day out while also contributing to the work we’re doing around the world to restore and protect wetlands. Membership means that toddlers visiting our sites will be helping to fund amazing things, such as contributing to free tickets for children who wouldn’t normally be able to access our sites or helping our work to protect threatened wetland species around the world.

We’re also investing in improving play areas for toddlers and children, with a new area opened at WWT Martin Mere in May 2025 and a new area coming to WWT London this summer. On top of this, we have indoor and outdoor play areas at many of our sites, as well as toddler groups meeting at some sites too.

All support, big or little, is important to restore wetlands and unlock their power.

For members who joined before 1 April 2025

We’re offering a grace period and members who joined before 1 April 2025 can continue to bring three year olds for free until their next renewal. From this renewal date, any children aged 3 (or above) will need to be part of a membership or have a separate admission ticket.

Members can update or switch their membership category when they renew online or via their renewal letter. Or they can contact our Supporter Services team on supporter@wwt.org.uk or 01453 891198.

For members who joined after 1 April 2025 or day visitors

This change has been live for all new members and day visitors since 1 April 2025. If someone is visiting with a three year old, they will need to be part of a Family membership or have their own Junior membership or have a separate admission ticket.

FAQs

I already have a Family membership. Do I need to make any changes to add a 3 year old at my next renewal?

As part of a Family membership, you can add up to six named children or grandchildren. Please contact us on supporter@wwt.org.uk or 01453 891198 to add your additional child or grandchild. If you already have six named children or grandchildren on the membership, you will need to purchase a Junior membership. This costs £24 a year or £2 a month. Alternatively, you can purchase a separate admission ticket whenever you visit. This varies per site, so please see your local centre page here.

I have a non-family membership and plan to visit with a toddler, what should I do at my next renewal?

If you’re planning to visit with your child or grandchild who is 3 years old (or above) you will need to have a Family membership, or they should have their own Junior membership. See here for our membership types and prices. Alternatively, you can purchase a separate admission ticket whenever you visit. See your local centre here for admission prices.
